Clear difference and evidence of the two different species...
It was a reply to me from my post in VenomList.Com...

For those who have been looking high and low in the net for the difference, here it is...

Pandinus Imperators supposedly have rough ridges on their chelae while the Heterometruses have a smooth chelae structure...

AFS are widely found in the forest of South East Asia and are easily obtain in the local pet trade. AES however, is a protected species, it's not impossible to obtain them but quite difficult and expensive.
They both look very similar and are quite difficult to tell apart to the untrained eye, but it's easy to tell if you know what to look for (I'll show you this as you read). Due to this fact, many traders and local pet shops either mistaken, misidentify or perhaps lie to customer in the hope to obtain extra profit or sales.

Below are pictures of both sp.
AFS - Asian Forest Scorpion (Heterometrus spinifer)

AES - African Emperor Scorpion (Pandinus imperator)

They both may look very similar, but it's easy to tell them apart just by looking at their pincers. The AFS have a smaller pincer while the AES 's pincers are fairy larger and the surface of the pincer for the AES looks kinda rough while the AFS's pincer ilooks kinda smooth.
My reply to a member who PM me asking the same question

Some addition that i learned.
The Heterometrus look green colour under bright white light and UV light.
But the Pandinus Imperator are pure black.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for sharing the website. I concur with you that Pandinus Imperator has rough ridges on their chelae while the Heterometruses sp. has a smooth chelae structure.

Size wise might be hard to tell apart because it can simply depends on the age and diet of the scorpions.

Colour wise ... might be another challenge because when I compared my heterometrus sp with my friend's Pandinus Imperator...both look equally greenish under bright light. The only difference is the chelae structrue.  Wink

So is it safe to put the 2 together in the same tank? Even if both are the same size?
